Unless stated, all brushwork on the models has been done by Meddy with verbal coaching from Dad.boyopaints.blogspot.co.nzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15224283787724897786noreply@blogger.comBlogger8125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7841049303322194289.post-40262826288812454742018-07-16T01:51:00.001-07:002018-07-30T03:19:36.054-07:00Plague Marine<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Another Plague Marine finished for Meddy's Nurgle force. She has used an expanded range of washes to get him looking suitably filthy.</div>

Meddy has just finished her biggest painting project to date, the Foetid Bloat Drone from the girls' 40k starter box. I was initially concerned about her ability to work through a job like this but she kept at it steadily and has done an amazing job for a 6-year old.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This monstrosity must stand over 15cm tall with a lot of exposed surface area so there is a heck of a lot of painting to get through before it is finished.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Through the whole project she has tried a number of new techniques, like the red lens effect on the eye and highlighting raised areas of flesh to get more depth. She has done a great job of adding rust effects to the steel and made some of her own decisions about colour and paint choices such as which areas to paint as steel and which as bronze, along with adding a slime effect to the strands hanging off its horns and to the canisters on the back of its guns (the idea of this thing flying around shooting slime everywhere seemed to appeal to her).</div>

Having finished her Poxwalkers from the First Strike box set Meddy has moved onto painting the three Death Guard plague marines from the set. Initially I thought they would be too difficult for her to paint but she has made such good progress on the poxwalkers that I decided to let her have a go.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTn6SS7sjehgUSqVp1IpsGzV_73_q_2IwoLbcBekUBYsoZUijnm3CamrtwwiqTJrRRHO0IDFqstpzkXcI-GnmoeHcqTzTrPksP1ci0yALAH-o01tQljykDqE6ifrKWKFOt5k2wVDMbfkNH/s1600/Plague+Marine+Sergeant%252C+Meddy+Age+Almost+6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="567" data-original-width="1209" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTn6SS7sjehgUSqVp1IpsGzV_73_q_2IwoLbcBekUBYsoZUijnm3CamrtwwiqTJrRRHO0IDFqstpzkXcI-GnmoeHcqTzTrPksP1ci0yALAH-o01tQljykDqE6ifrKWKFOt5k2wVDMbfkNH/s640/Plague+Marine+Sergeant%252C+Meddy+Age+Almost+6.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Her first effort was the sergeant of the unit who has had a plaguebearer head added in place of his helmet so that he better fits with both Meddy's poxwalkers and my own upcoming Death Guard marines.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She has started with a bone coloured undercoat and applied a couple of green washes to his flesh to get depth and shading. She has then applied base colourw to all the other details and given them either a brown or black wash. She has given his sword a rusted look by 'blobbing' Typhus Corrosion onto the blade before drybrushing with Ryza Rust.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The mouth in is stomach has come up especially well. She achieved this look by applying a brown wash to the whole area followed by a red wash to the areas nearest to his skin.</div>

Five poxwalkers down and one to go from the First Strike box. Meddy's brush control has gotten better and better throughout the process and in her latest effort (far right of picture) she showed a steady hand when painting some quite small details (see goggle lenses and belt buckles).</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

With her sister claiming the Primaris Marines from the 40k First Strike box, Meddy is painting up the Poxwalkers (and I'll be painting the Plague Marines that go with them).</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGGinvSMZDlxc0QARX0d-0TQoiHxROOHQZfD8Jz6W1rc5BlTKUAlhExk4HQfYhoZFXSt34wnNm1DNcRNxWzmmhIdfcXvzMZqIdVylT1pPRCcfx8S1X7cESlWCZWITpDeXygHt4OvI-GAxW/s1600/Poxwalker+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="481" data-original-width="425" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGGinvSMZDlxc0QARX0d-0TQoiHxROOHQZfD8Jz6W1rc5BlTKUAlhExk4HQfYhoZFXSt34wnNm1DNcRNxWzmmhIdfcXvzMZqIdVylT1pPRCcfx8S1X7cESlWCZWITpDeXygHt4OvI-GAxW/s400/Poxwalker+2.jpg" width="352" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Meddy has painted two poxwalkers so far and has applied glazes over a bone coloured base spray to build up colour before using washes to get better definition of the details. Ignoring Dad's advice she has decided not to try painting their eyes or mouths, but I'm still hoping I can get her to at least put a red wash in their mouths</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiZ1fzbAtjd4fB0nJeeCdPpzD8oX8MzFiV5lknUGCah3VijYNEbK1wOscgHraHS3vTynfI6s9nYWCfIFCPmL3dipMInzCJeD9W0xxWkFwTmfFE-I0ti0qyIcGzFxxfAtZq_adkgmE1iLOP/s1600/Poxwalker+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1204" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiZ1fzbAtjd4fB0nJeeCdPpzD8oX8MzFiV5lknUGCah3VijYNEbK1wOscgHraHS3vTynfI6s9nYWCfIFCPmL3dipMInzCJeD9W0xxWkFwTmfFE-I0ti0qyIcGzFxxfAtZq_adkgmE1iLOP/s400/Poxwalker+1.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As yet she is still undecided on how to base them but we'll probably end up basing them to match my Nurgle Daemons force.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For her 5th model Meddy has painted an Ork (that's one painted by each of us now). She has chosen to go with natural tones for his clothing and a mixture of bronze and steel for his weapons and armour.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Meddy has used Martian Ironearth on the base of the model, and also glued on a tuft of grass for effect.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

For her fourth model Meddy has painted a Blood Angels Sergeant (following in her sister's footsteps) with, for some strange reason, a blue bolt pistol. She has painted base colours then washed with Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade. Meddy has also used Dad's blood paint to add blood to the chainsword.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR8V-vLVfPc3gVTX85XDceeORAKs1FRmjRHawlhyphenhyphenTk2DHco1vJQuLLPy1U5KQ5ygKHSqF05KaVlfuZVoNYH2yB_GDWf-L_e29qYUxXOYsyYSs0sIELvjcJyFbvbd9cX7gO1KR9qxltbLDQ/s1600/Meddy+4th+Model%252C+Age+4+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR8V-vLVfPc3gVTX85XDceeORAKs1FRmjRHawlhyphenhyphenTk2DHco1vJQuLLPy1U5KQ5ygKHSqF05KaVlfuZVoNYH2yB_GDWf-L_e29qYUxXOYsyYSs0sIELvjcJyFbvbd9cX7gO1KR9qxltbLDQ/s400/Meddy+4th+Model%252C+Age+4+front.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Meddy has based this model herself (apart from the stone between his feet). Having declared she wanted stones and grass on the base we went outside to collect some suitable stones that she has then superglued (by dipping them into a small puddle of glue) onto the base along with some artificial grass. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Disclaimer: The blood streaks on the back of the chainsword were applied by Dad to show Meddy the technique.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
For her first 3 efforts Meddy painted up some Termagants. While she was happy for them all to have red skin she was determined that they were going to have "different shells".</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She has base coloured the trio and washed with Nuln Oil. She also had a go at drybrushing their teeth (with varying degrees of accuracy). The Termagant on the right was based by Dad.</div>
